INDEX is a new cultural and research institution created in Lviv to empower the Ukrainian intellectual vanguard and advance knowledge about Ukraine worldwide in the long-term perspective. It aims to connect the initiatives documenting the war and facilitate international exchange through fellowships for academics and cultural practitioners from Ukraine and abroad.
We are now looking for an Archiving Coordinator / Head of Archiving (title will be commensurate with experience and level of responsibility of selected candidate). This person will work closely with INDEX's leadership to lead INDEX's digital archiving activities, including the Documenting Ukraine archive and participation in a growing network of Ukrainian documentation and archiving initiatives.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing protocols for ingest of materials produced within the Documenting Ukraine program, in cooperation with outside service providers
- Managing a sustainable and secure digital infrastructure for preservation of diverse formats of materials
- Working with INDEX's visiting archival development fellows to conceptualise and implement next steps for the Documenting Ukraine archive and the archiving initiative network
- Coordinating partnerships with other archiving initiatives, including maintaining and further developing a catalogue of documenting and archiving initiatives
- Contributing to educational/training programs in digital preservation and archiving
Desired qualifications:
- For Archiving Coordinator, MA with training in a relevant field (e.g. digital humanities, information systems/studies, archives and records management, data science) plus 1–2 years experience; for Head of Archiving, PhD and/or 3–5 years experience
- Knowledge of key operations for archives and/or other preservation institutions (libraries, museums), including ingest, preservation, and access
- Knowledge of current standards, best practices, and principles in the fields of digital asset management
- Familiarity with current technologies and software used in digital archive environments
- Strong project management and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to learn new technical skills
- Oral and written proficiency in Ukrainian and English sufficient to operate in a bilingual environment (B2 or above)
